Nevis Ensemble is a brand new Street Orchestra for Scotland, bringing 70 performances to communities across the country during Glasgow 2018.

We will take our energetic 40-piece orchestra, pop up and surprise commuters first thing in the morning, make guerrilla-style appearances in swimming pools, and even perform at the summit of Ben Nevis.

With the theme of Movement, and conducted by Holly Mathieson and Jon Hargreaves, the orchestra will draw musicians from Scotland, London, Amsterdam and Berlin, performing everything from Rachmaninov, to Radiohead, a few Reels thrown in, and a brand new commission from award-winning composer Matthew Grouse.

Today's appearances:

  • The Croft, Queen's Park Recreation Ground, Glasgow, 1:30pm - 2:30pm
A community gathering, barbecue and performance hosted by South Seeds, and taking place in The Croft (Queen’s Park Recreation Ground, just by Queen’s Park Bowling Club).
Open to everyone, the Croft shall be welcoming visitors between 1-3pm with open arms and a tasty barbecue with a performance at 1.30pm.

  • Refuweegee – Kinning Park Complex, Glasgow, 4pm - 4:45pm
The annual party and barbecue of Refuweegee, which welcomes New Scots to Glasgow with packs of cards, gifts and letters from Glaswegians, and lobbies to reduce the issues faced by many asylum seekers and refugees, this community event will be open to all.

  • The Space, 257 London Road, Glasgow, 7pm - 8pm
The Space is Scotland’s first ‘pay what you feel’ venue, and acts as an accessible community hub for the east end of the city centre next to Glasgow Green. Open to the whole community, before the performance there shall be a communal meal from 6pm made from surplus stock from the city’s supermarkets (at a pay what you feel rate), with a Nevis performance from 7pm.
