Opening the celebrations of Hamish Henderson’s centenary year, singer and fiddler Lori Watson curates a line-up of leading younger heirs to his vast folksong legacy. Together with his own compositions – most notably, of course, the ‘Freedom Come-All-Ye’- Henderson’s work as a song collector, first with Alan Lomax, then as co-founder of Edinburgh University’s School of Scottish Studies and its unique fieldwork archive, represents arguably his greatest achievement. Watson, Steve Byrne, Fiona Hunter, Mischa MacPherson, Scott Gardiner, Findlay Napier and Louis Abbott perform their choices from this bounteous treasure-trove, with audio and video recordings conjuring the presence of the man himself, and an instrumental line-up including Innes Watson, Heather Downie, Alistair Paterson and John Mulhearn.
