Back in July 2010, the inaugural Tiree Music Festival, attended by a 600-strong crowd, marked the fulfilment of a long-held dream for Skerryvore accordionist and co-founder Daniel Gillespie: that of sharing his home island’s breathtaking natural beauties and vibrant musical culture with visitors from around the world, while supporting its tiny community’s fragile economy. The event has since flourished beyond Gillespie’s wildest hopes, nowadays routinely selling out its current capacity of 2000. While enduring climatic tribulations that have seemed cruel and unusual even by Scottish standards, it’s won nine national event awards and a devoted annual following, with a folk/pop/indie programming mix that’s included Sharon Shannon, Capercaillie, the Fratellis, the Levellers, Blazin’ Fiddles, Flook, We Banjo 3 and Fergie MacDonald.

To launch 2019’s 10th edition, Skerryvore and other Tiree-rooted artists, including Glasgow Gaelic outfit Trail West, feature on tonight’s bill together with special guest appearances and new collaborations from acts who’ve graced the festival’s stages.
