Join us in Waterstones for a Speculative Fiction panel discussion led by Arusa Qureshi with debut authors Emily Buchanan, Oraine Johnson and Chris Kohler.

🌸 Send Flowers by Emily Buchanan

Set in a future that feels all too real, Emily Buchanan's startlingly original debut explores the right to protest amidst climate chaos, the importance of community in weathering life's storms and the resilience of love and hope in a world that seems beyond saving.

💫 Lucid by Oraine Johnson

From a spellbinding debut voice comes a gripping urban fantasy, set in the heart of a near-future Birmingham. Joseph Jacobs is just an ordinary teenager - he goes to university, skateboards, stays out of trouble. But when he skates past a crime scene which matches a dream he can't forget, everything he once knew to be true begins to unravel.

👉 Phantom Limb by Chris Kohler

One evening, Gillis - a young Scottish minister who technically doesn't believe in god - falls into a hole left by a recently dug up elm tree and discovers an ancient disembodied hand in the soil. He's about to rebury it when the hand... beckons to him. He spirits it back to his manse and gives it pen and paper, whereupon it begins to doodle scratchy and anarchic visions.
