Amicus Orchestra
Bartok: Romanian Folk Dances
Martinu: Rhapsody Concerto for Viola
Dvorak: Symphony No 9 'New World'
Conductor: Meesun Hong Coleman
Viola: William Coleman
We welcome the distinguished violinist, director and educator Susan Meesun Hong Coleman for the first time to conduct the orchestra.
Our programme will have an American flavour including Dvorak's evergreen 9th Symphony 'New World'. This will be paired with Martinu's romantic rhapsody-concerto for viola written in New York 1952 which has become one of the most performed viola concertos of the 20th century. Meesun's husband William Coleman, a distinguished soloist and chamber musician has happily agreed to join us as soloist in this work. The concert starts with Bartok's Romanian Dances directed from the violin by Meesun.
