About this ship model
Full-hull ship model of passenger liner Queen Mary, scale 1:57.9.
This large shipbuilder's display model was developed around one made for wind tunnel testing during the development of the design of the Queen Mary. It shows the hull of the vessel and has a detailed superstructure featuring the liner's three funnels and iconic curved bridge, as well as masts, rigging and deck fittings. The model is painted in Cunard's black, red and white livery (though operated by Cunard-White Star Line Ltd), and is supported on six turned brass mounts.
Queen Mary was a passenger liner of 81,235 tons which was built between 1930-36 by John Brown & Co. Ltd, Clydebank, for Cunard-White Star Line Ltd, Liverpool. Queen Mary quickly became one of the most renowned and recognisable vessels of the 20th century on her transatlantic routes. She was requisitioned as a troopship WWII and was sold in 1967 to the City of Long Beach, California, and preserved as museum, conference centre and hotel.
