Our 2026 competition is now open! Last date for entries is Friday 29th May.

Glasgow Life Museums Annual Art Competition for Young People was first established in 1904 and continues to this day. Each year, young people aged between 3 and 18 are invited to draw something on display in one of our museum venues. With such varied collections, and amazing architecture, there's plenty to inspire!  Participation can be through a school visit or as an individual.

This year's participating museums are:

  • Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
  • Burrell Collection
  • Riverside Museum
  • St Mungo Museum
  • Gallery of Modern Art

Drawings must be done in-situ and be the young person's own work. Attach a label to the back of the artwork providing a name, age and contact details -labels are available at the reception desk.

Please bring your own materials such as pastels, coloured pencils or graphite. More information on materials can be found below.

Entries will be judged early June and winners notified by the end of June. We award Commended and Highly Commended certificates, as well as Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Medal winners are invited to a prize giving in the Autumn.

Please note we cannot return non-winning entries.

School groups should book in advance by emailing:
