Countdown to EURO 2028 begins as Glasgow prepares to play its part

UEFA EURO 2028 was officially launched today (Wednesday 12 November 2025) with celebration events and activations held across the UK and Ireland, including in Glasgow.
Preparations are gathering pace as UEFA and the UK and Ireland 2028 will deliver the largest sporting event ever jointly staged by the co-host nations with more than three million match tickets available for fans – greater than any previous EURO.
The Tournament will excite fans worldwide and create long-lasting benefits for communities through an amazing celebration of top-class international football.
Match Schedule announced:
The eagerly awaited Match Schedule has been announced, confirming that the Tournament begins at the National Stadium of Wales, Cardiff, on Friday 9 June and reaches an exciting conclusion with the Final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 9 July.
Staged in nine stadia across eight Host Cities, UEFA EURO 2028 UK and Ireland is building up to be a compelling showcase of elite football, with Glasgow proud to be playing its part as a EURO Host City for the second time.
Match Schedule highlights, include:
51 matches overall involving 24 teams across 31 days.
Home nations will play all group games in front of their own fans if they qualify directly.
Glasgow will host six matches at Hampden Park between 10 June and 1 July 2028.
Group matches:
o Match Day 1: Saturday 10 June.
o Match Day 2: Tuesday 13 June.
o Match Day 3: Saturday 17 June.
o Match Day 4: Wednesday 21 June.
Followed by:
o Round of 16: Monday 26 June.
o Quarter-final: Saturday 1 July.
Three Tournament kick-off times: 20:00 BST; 17:00 BST; and 14:00 BST.
Full details of each matchday will be announced after the final Tournament draw in 2027.
Dynamic UEFA EURO 2028 UK and Ireland brand unveiled:
With less than 1,000 days to go until the Tournament kicks-off on 9 June 2028, today’s launch marked the unveiling of the official UEFA EURO 2028 brand, including the Host City and Nation logos and Stadium Illustrations.
The Tournament brand, which celebrates the fans who express the universal language of football and their love of the game through the famous cheers, chants and sounds that ring around stadia every week, was revealed to fans in spectacular fashion tonight at exactly 20:28 (8:28pm GMT) on the giant Piccadilly Lights screens in London’s Piccadilly Circus.
Simultaneously, Glasgow, one of eight cities to co-host this prestigious tournament, unveiled their Host City logo featuring the iconic Armadillo, with a dazzling lighting display on the exterior of the world-renowned Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in the heart of the city centre.
£3.6 billion socio-economic benefits anticipated across UK and Ireland:
Following an independent assessment, it is anticipated UEFA EURO 2028 will generate £3.6 billion (€4.1 billion) of socio-economic benefits for the UK and Ireland between 2028 and 2031*. Benefits include job creation, regional prosperity and direct expenditure from international visitors to the Tournament.
Local businesses, suppliers and communities within Host Cities will see direct economic gains, while dedicated training and volunteering initiatives will enhance skills development and open pathways into employment across the regions. Hosting an outstanding Tournament will also showcase the best of the UK and Ireland to the world and help secure additional major events.
Government investments will be made to help deliver a world-class UEFA EURO 2028 and unlock these far-reaching social and economic benefits. The UK Government, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and Government of Ireland will collectively invest up to £740 million (€840 million) to ensure the event is safe, secure and offers a world-class experience for fans and communities across the UK and Ireland.
This government investment includes contributions, alongside football partners, to a £45 million (€51 million) social impact fund, which will extend socio-economic benefits for communities beyond the Host Cities before, during and after the Tournament.
Largest-ever UEFA EURO Community Programme:
UEFA EURO 2028 UK and Ireland will see the largest-ever Community Programme for the Tournament. Social impact plans will be delivered by local stakeholders in each Host Nation to harness the power of sport and culture, bring communities together and inspire positive change.
These plans will ensure UEFA EURO 2028 is celebrated in hundreds of communities, placing the spotlight on football inclusivity, volunteers and community heroes. The Community Programme will also use the Tournament as a catalyst to grow a more diverse and sustainable game, build belonging, boost pride and promote positive behaviours at all levels of football.

“The unveiling of Glasgow’s match schedule and our host city logo are two exciting milestones on the road to Hampden, the real home of football.
“With a potential global TV audience of more than two billion, this is another incredible opportunity to showcase Glasgow, while those visiting from across Europe will experience our city’s world-class hospitality and the warmth of our people.
“Of course, we’ll be helping make sure ordinary Glaswegians are part of this festival of football and look forward to working with the Scottish Football Association on the largest-ever Community Programme for the Tournament.”
