Springburn Pool to reopen after significant refurbishment
Springburn Pool is set to reopen after a significant refurbishment programme in time for the school summer holidays.
Glasgow Life, the charity that leads culture, events and active living in Glasgow, has confirmed the swimming pool will reopen to the public on Tuesday 23 June following the major renovation project.
It was carried out to provide swimmers with a more comfortable environment and enable Glasgow Club Springburn to continue serving the local community for years to come.
The works included upgrading the pool operating system and air handling units, poolside decoration including new tiling, and the refurbishment of the changing village, poolside showers and toilets.
New energy-efficient boilers and a modern ventilation system have been installed to help ensure a sustainable future for the popular leisure centre. The project also incorporated replacing signage throughout the centre with refreshed Glasgow Life branding.
From Tuesday 23 June, the opening hours for Springburn Pool will be:
- Monday to Friday – 6.00am to 9.00pm
- Saturday and Sunday – 8.00am to 4.00pm
George Hunter, Director of Libraries, Sport and Communities at Glasgow Life, said: “Glasgow Club Springburn is a valued community facility, and we’re pleased to reopen the pool following this significant programme of improvements. Local people can once again enjoy a high-quality space to swim, train and keep active.”
Built on the original site of the old Kay Street Baths, the venue opened as a sports centre in the mid 1980s. It went on to become known as Springburn Leisure Centre a decade later when the swimming pool, a gym facility, dance studio, health suite and soft play area were added.
Glasgow Club Springburn has become a key part of the city’s sporting infrastructure. As one of the main public swimming pools serving the north of Glasgow, thousands of people have learned to swim, stayed active and socialised there over the years.
Springburn Pool is the fifth swimming pool in Glasgow to be refurbished since 2023 as part of a multi-million-pound investment that guarantees the future of swimming in the city for generations to come.
