Supporting each other following recent incidents
Dear colleagues,
We know that the recent attacks in Edinburgh on Friday and the unrest in Glasgow earlier this month may have made many of you feel worried or uneasy.
Incidents like these, whether you experience them firsthand or see them in the news, can be upsetting. We understand that some of you may feel concerned about your safety, your commute, or how these events affect your community and loved ones.
We want to reassure you that we are staying in close contact with Police Scotland, who are keeping an eye on the situation. Right now, there is no sign of increased local risk, but we will keep you updated if anything changes.
Glasgow is a proud, diverse, and welcoming city, and these values are central to how we work as an organisation. We are committed to making sure everyone feels safe, respected, valued, and supported at work.
Supporting one another
As colleagues, we all play a part in supporting one another:
- Take a moment to check in with colleagues who might need some extra support.
- Stay connected, whether it’s a chat in person or a quick message on Teams.
- Show kindness and understanding. Even small actions can make a big difference.
Support available
If you are feeling affected, please remember that there are several ways you can get support:
- Talk to your line manager about any concerns. They can help you find the right support.
- You can get confidential support through PAM Assist, our Employee Assistance Programme, which is available 24/7.
- Speak to your Trade Union representative if appropriate.
- Please learn how to recognise a Hate Crime and how to report it at hatecrimeglasgow.org.
Managers
Managers have an important role in supporting their teams right now:
- Remember that some colleagues may feel anxious, unsettled, or vulnerable, especially when commuting.
- Check in with your team and make time for open conversations.
- Be mindful that everyone’s situation and experience may be different.
- Offer practical support when needed, including flexibility if possible.
- Help colleagues find support and work together to address any concerns.
Our commitment
Our policies are here to support and protect you. We do not tolerate bullying, harassment, discrimination, or violence of any kind. Please take some time to learn about the support available for bullying and harassment and know that we are committed to keeping our workplace safe for everyone.

- Keep in touch with friends, family, and colleagues.
- Visit our My Wellbeing pages for support.
If you or anyone else experiences threats, incidents, or has safety concerns, please report them to Police Scotland right away.
