Fiction as the New Rock 'n' Roll
Alan Warner & Dawnie Walton chaired by Kirstin Innes

7.15pm – 8.15pm BST*

Kitchenly 434 is the latest novel from Alan Warner, author of Morven Callar and The Sopranos.
It's the late 70s: the country is on the cusp of the arrival of Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister, and Marko Morrell, guitarist in Fear Taker, is one of the biggest rock stars on the planet. When, one day, two young girls arrive clutching their copies of his LPs we are taken on a romantic misadventure involving a soiled carpet, a bed of roses, a classic car and a fine pair of stockings. The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton introduces a bold new voice in fiction. Opal is an independent young woman pushing against the grain in her style and attitude, a Black punk artist before her time. Despite her unconventional looks, Opal believes she can be a star. So when the aspiring British singer/songwriter Neville Charles discovers her one night, she takes him up on his offer to make rock music together. Alan and Dawnie will be in conversation with Kirstin Innes, author of Scabby Queen, a blistering portrait of Scottish rock legend Clio Campbell.
