Aye Write prides itself on spotlighting new talent and punchy stories. Debut novels by Martin Griffin, Callum McSorley and Alice Slater will feature in this ‘Ones To Watch’ event.

Martin Griffin's The Second Stranger finds a hotel worker trying to decide which of their most recent guests is a cop and which a murderer as Storm Ezra isolates them all. Remie Yorke has one shift left at the Mackinnon Hotel in the remote Scottish Highlands before she leaves for good. As temperatures plummet and phone lines go down, an injured man stumbles inside. PC Don Gaines was in a terrible accident on the mountain road. The only other survivor: the prisoner his team was transporting. When a second stranger arrives, Remie reluctantly lets him in from the blizzard. He, too, is hurt. He claims to be a police officer. His name is also Don Gaines. Someone is lying and, with no means of escape, Remie must work out who. If the cold doesn't kill her, one of these men will get there first.

Alice Slater’s Death of a Bookseller finds two booksellers drawn towards each other in a sinister game of obsession. Roach - bookseller, loner and true crime obsessive - is not interested in making friends. She has all the company she needs in her serial killer books, murder podcasts and her pet snail, Bleep. That is, until Laura joins the bookshop. Smelling of roses, with her cute literary tote bags and beautiful poetry, she's everyone's new favourite bookseller. But beneath the shiny veneer, Roach senses a darkness within Laura, the same darkness Roach possesses. As Roach's curiosity blooms into morbid obsession, it becomes clear that she is prepared to infiltrate Laura's life at any cost

Callum McSorley’s thriller Squeaky Clean has been described as a manic tale of blood and suds told with laconic humour and warmly engaging characterisation. Half the Glasgow copshop think DI Alison McCoist is bent. The other half just think she’s a f**k up. No one thinks very much at all about carwash employee Davey Burnet, until one day he takes the wrong customer’s motor for a ride. One kidnapping later, he and the carwash are officially part of Glasgow’s criminal underworld, working for a psychopath who enjoys playing games like ‘Keep Yer Kneecaps’ with any poor bastard who crosses him.
