While staunchly rooted in the traditions of her native Aberdeenshire, Iona Fyfe’s muse has proved restlessly wide-ranging – and all the more fruitful for it. Her 2018 debut album Away From My Window placed the songs of Stanley Robertson and Lizzie Higgins alongside material by Michael Marra and Aidan Moffatt, while 2019’s Dark Turn of Mind EP wove in jazz and Americana influences. Renowned above all for her bewitchingly expressive voice, she’s accompanied here by fiddlers Charlie Stewart and Graham Rorie, pianist Michael Biggins and guitarist Scott Turnbull.
“Incredible confidence and maturity. . utterly haunting” (Folk Radio UK)
Fiery Trad duo Rachel Hair & Ron Jappy combine the clarsach (Scottish harp) and acoustic guitar with electrifying results. This is demonstrated in their aptly named 2019 album release SPARKS. Influenced by Rachel’s upbringing in the Highland village of Ullapool, and Ron’s North-East roots, together they combine their passion for traditional music with a repertoire rich in melodies old and new. It's the perfect synthesis of the modern and the traditional.
