This is the first retrospective of Scottish artist and writer John Byrne’s illustrious career for more than 20 years. A polymath and cultural icon, John has continued to work, paint and create plays on into his 80’s. This exhibition encapsulates the energy and excitement of John’s work and tells a little of the fascinating life he’s led.

A highlight of the show at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will be a room displaying over 40 self-portraits, the most ever displayed at one time, spanning Byrne's whole career. Download the plan of the self-portraits from the link on the right.

A Big Adventure features works from Glasgow Life Museums’ collection as well as institutions across Scotland and private lenders.
