Marit Fält’s Irrationalities is written as an uncensored stream of consciousness that charts the peaks and troughs of the last five years of her life, including periods of depression as well as wonderful professional opportunities; and most recently, the low of chemotherapy as well as the excitement of remission. Raised in Scandinavia but living in Scotland, this multi-instrumentalist focuses mainly on mandola to explore the influence of her current state of mental health on her music. The piece draws influences from across the musical world, and is intended partly to promote discussion of the prevalence of mental health issues within the traditional music community.
