commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of Edinburgh poet Robert
Fergusson, the Mitchell Library in collaboration with the University of
Glasgow, will host a free exhibition
(9th Sep - 30th Oct 2024) and events programme this autumn which celebrates the
significant textual, medical, linguistic and cultural legacies left by Robert
Fergusson.
As part of our free events programme, we are delighted to welcome Professor Rhona Brown to the Mitchell Library. Prof Brown will discuss the life and works of Edinburgh poet Robert Fergusson (1750-74) whose tragically short life was nonetheless one of literary achievement and influence to the extent that Robert Burns (1759 – 1796), often considered Scotland’s national poet, described Fergusson as a key catalyst for his own poetry, and as his 'elder brother in the Muse'.
Further Prof Brown will also discuss the details of a Leverhulme Trust funded project currently underway at the University of Glasgow, which will produce a new Complete Works of Robert Fergusson and investigate his legacy in 2024, the 250th anniversary of his death.

Parking
Please note that there is on-street parking surrounding The Mitchell Library. This is metered from 8am-6pm. Monday to Friday. As this is a local residential area, please use these spaces considerately. Alternatively, there is a NCP Car Park on India Street next to Charing Cross Train Station which is a 2 minute walk away.
Photography and video recording
On occasion, Glasgow Life will be on the premises to film and take photos.
