With their virtuosic, grittily authentic mix of old-time and newly-written Appalachian folk songs and fiddle/banjo tunes, Canadian trio the Lonesome Ace Stringband unite decades of musical experience, in acts including New Country Rehab and the Foggy Hogtown Boys, as well as their longtime residency at storied Toronto venue the Dakota Tavern, which can see them playing ten sets in a weekend. The resulting über-seasoned rapport between fiddler John Showman, Chris Coole on banjo and bassist Max Heineman – with all three also sharing lead vocals and songwriting – lends equal tightness and fluency to their timeless singing and playing, vibrantly captured on 2018’s third album When the Sun Comes Up.
