This Hallowe’en the Special Collections department is serving up some dark fairytales on level 5 of the Mitchell Library!

Kids and parents are invited to come and join us as we listen to stories illustrated by Arthur Rackham, one of the greatest children’s illustrators of all time.

Enjoy the pictures he painted, then create your own spooky stories in our crafting session with badge making and drawing sheets!

Hallowe’en costumes encouraged but not required. We hope to see you soon!

25 spaces available. This includes adults.

While you're, why not have a look at our display of rare children's books, featuring illustrations by Arthur Rackham himself?

From 1st October to 31st December, the Special Collections department at The Mitchell Library presents The Dark Fairy Tales of Arthur Rackham, a display of books and images that celebrates one of the greatest children’s book illustrators of all time. Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Gulliver’s Travels; so many of the classics that we know and love today were artfully illustrated by Rackham in his signature pen and watercolour style, inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites, Arts and Crafts Movement, and Art Nouveau.

Come and discover more about Arthur Rackham and our treasured Children’s Collection in the level 5 foyer at the Mitchell Library!
