Glasgow Life Museums Ageing Well Programme

We have a variety of options for individuals to take part in sessions across our museum venues.

Glasgow Museums work with the charity ReEngage to provide gatherings at our venues.

These cater for people over the age of 70, who may live alone or find it harder to get out on their own and are interested in visiting museums. Guests are collected from their homes by volunteers and explore a different museum each month.

Coffee & Culture is a free museum programme which provides an opportunity to meet people, find out about museum displays and access information and support in a relaxing setting. Working in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland, these are friendly and welcoming sessions for people with dementia and their carers. 

Kelvin Hall - fortnightly on Tuesday afternoons, for 4 sessions.

Free Age Well sessions for groups of older adults and care homes.

These relaxed visits provide the opportunity to explore our displays at a slower pace with a member of our learning team. You can handle real museum objects and have a cup of tea or coffee and chat.

Sessions can be tailored to meet the needs of your groups and are available to book throughout the year in the following venues:

Riverside Museum, The Burrell Collection, Glasgow Museums Resource Centre (GMRC), Kelvingrove Museum, Gallery of Modern Art, Kelvin Hall and St Mungo Museum.

Guided sessions for Glasgow community groups who may encounter barriers to accessing museums.

During a Your Museum visit, your group will be met by a member of our learning team. The session will include object handling, learning more about our displays and a hot drink. Visits can be adapted to meet the needs of your individual group. Sessions are free.

Glasgow Museum staff have all undertaken Dementia Friends training with Alzheimers Scotland.

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) have delivered Communication and Stroke Experience training for our Learning and Access team.

They have also undertaken Sight Loss awareness training with RNIC as well as Autism awareness training and mental health awareness training with SAMH.

The Open Museum supports Glasgow-based groups and organisations who may find it difficult to visit our museums. We do this through our popular loan kit service; by delivering outreach sessions; and by hosting travelling displays in community venues. We are based at Glasgow Museums Resource Centre
