Carefully restoring a Glasgow landmark
The People's Palace and Winter Gardens (PPWG) are undergoing an ambitious transformation.
Glaswegians are at the heart of reshaping the museum and its displays. The aim is to have a world-class visitor destination in the East End, co-created by the people of Glasgow.
Safeguarding the future of the People's Palace and Winter Gardens
This project will do more than restore the much-loved People's Palace. It'll spark a culture-led regeneration in one of Scotland’s most disadvantaged areas.
There has been an unprecedented community engagement programme. More than 7,000 people from across Glasgow have already helped shape the museum's future. Some of the areas they've informed include:
- Exhibitions
- Storytelling
- Accessibility
- Environmental design
The vision is to deliver one of the most socially engaged museums of its kind. The redesigned space will also feature improved accessibility and flexible areas for events and community use. It'll have a café and picnic space as well as toilets accessible from Glasgow Green.
Heritage and sustainability are being carefully balanced. Plants of horticultural and historical significance have already been preserved through cuttings. And the original landscaping stone has been retained and safely stored for reuse.

- Delivers lasting value for communities
The project is expected to attract around 600,000 visitors in its first year of reopening. It will also generate more than £8 million in economic impact.
