What is the Live Active Referral Scheme?
Live Active will support you to become more physically active, helping you build the confidence to make positive changes and achieve your goals. For up to twelve months you will have the opportunity to meet with and have regular catch ups with your highly trained advisor who will provide you with support, information and guidance to help you get started and keep going.
Whether you choose to walk more, attend the gym, try an exercise class, take up a sport or simply be a bit more active day to day, the advisor will be there to keep you on track. We offer ongoing personalised support through one to one catch-ups, telephone calls or group support. Our Live Active advisors also lead a range of supported activities such as group gym sessions, exercises classes and health walks which you will be more than welcome to attend.

When you call, if you could quote the unique reference number we provided in the text we sent you that will help us get you booked in as quickly and easily as possible.
If you would like to get more active but feel you are confident enough to access activities without the support of Live Active that’s not a problem! Rather than book a Live Active appointment you are welcome to call us on 0141 287 0241 and we can help you with booking a gym appointment or accessing fitness classes as well as providing information on health walks, walking football sessions and a wide range of other activities.

Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the questions we are asked most frequently. Have a read through them and it may help you to decide if Live Active is the right option for you.
What will happen when I come to my first appointment?
You will come along to the leisure centre of your choice and meet with your Live Active Advisor. Your appointment will last for around one hour and during this time you will chat to your advisor about the types of activities you would like to take part in. Your advisor will then provide you with all the information you need to know about your chosen activities such as times, dates, venues, cost, what to wear, etc. You will also discuss the goals that you would like to achieve as a result of getting more active. Examples of goals that people often set themselves are to “get fitter”, “feel better” or “be able to walk up the stairs without feeling breathless”.
How much does it cost for the appointments?
Your appointments with your Live Active Advisor are free. However, there is a cost to NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Glasgow Sport of approximately £40 to provide them. Because of this, we would ask you to fully consider if the Live Active Referral Scheme is right for you at this time and that you are able to attend to allow us to minimise the number of missed appointments.
How much does it cost to exercise?
Depending on the type of activity you choose to take part in there may be no cost attached. Your Live Active Advisor can provide you with information on free activities such as health walks, green gyms & home based exercise options.
If you would like to take part in leisure centre based activities such as fitness classes or the gym you can choose to take part on a “pay as you go” basis or as part of a monthly membership. Memberships start from as low as £15 per month or £10 per month if you meet the concession criteria. Your Live Active Advisor will discuss these options with you to ensure you receive the best value for money.
How often do I need to attend appointments?
The Live Active programme is based around your needs. At your first appointment you can chat with your Live Active Advisor about the level of support you would like to help you get started and stay active.
As a minimum, we will meet with you at your first appointment and will then be in contact again to support you at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months & 12 months. You have the option to physically attend follow up appointments or speak with your advisor over the phone.
You can also choose to attend the group based gym sessions, health walks or fitness classes that are led by your Live Active Advisor meaning that you will have weekly contact with them.
Why do I need to set goals?
We know from research and experience that when you set yourself a goal you are more likely to make a change. By being part of Live Active you are making a decision to become more physically active and we know that setting yourself goals will help you do this.
I don’t need support to get started I just want a personalised gym programme. Do I need to attend Live Active appointments for that?
No, you don’t need to come to Live Active appointments for this. You can book a gym appointment with a member of the Glasgow Club gym team who will be happy to create a personalised gym programme for you. Call 0141 287 0241 to book your gym appointment.
I would like to be more active but don’t feel I require the support of the Live Active Referral Scheme. Should I still attend Live Active anyway?
No, if you don’t require support to start exercising you should not attend Live Active appointments. Please call us on 0141 287 0241 to let us know that you don’t require the support of Live Active so that we don’t continue to contact you about the programme. While we are speaking to you we can help you with booking a gym appointment or accessing fitness classes as well as providing information on health walks, walking football sessions and a wide range of other activities.
Is it one to one personal training?
No, we can’t offer you one to one personal training as part of Live Active. Glasgow Club offer personal training that you can pay to access. To find out how to access Glasgow Club personal training please call us on 0141 287 0241.
I want to exercise in a Glasgow Club venue. Can I only exercise in the same centre that I attend my Live Active appointment in?
Once you have attended your first appointment you can then go on to use ANY of our Glasgow club venues to exercise.
What happens when my 12 months has finished?
Our goal at Live Active is to provide you with the confidence and knowledge to become independently active by the time your 12 months on the scheme has come to an end. While you will no longer need to attend Live Active appointments you will be able to continue with your chosen activities for as long as you wish!
Once I finish my 12 months with Live Active can I be referred again?
No, we wouldn’t usually accept a re-referral. During your time on the programme you will work with your Live Active Advisor to build your confidence to independently exercise. As part of this, your Live Active Advisor will work with you to prepare you with the skills and information you need to make sure that you can continue exercising once your 12 months on Live Active comes to an end. You’ll be so well prepared that you won’t need us anymore!
Why does Live Active last for 12 months?
Research tells us that offering access to Live Active for 12 months will give everyone the best chance to become and stay active. You may find you achieve your goals sooner than you think and don’t require the full 12 months support. This is great and you can ‘graduate’ from the programme at any time if you feel confident enough to continue exercising independently.
