The team offer a range of free courses and digital support at libraries across the city, including a 'Getting Started' beginners course, Introduction to iPad/tablet devices and the International Certificate of Digital Literacy (ICDL)*.

Getting Started with Computers

A free course designed for individuals who have little or no computer experience. From switching on a computer to searching the Internet and sending E-mails – this is a fun and informal introduction to computers and tablets.

Topics covered include:

  • Getting started with Computers
  • Getting started with Microsoft Word
  • Getting started with the Internet
  • Getting started with Shopping and Media
  • Getting started with E-mail

Who is the course for?

Complete beginners or those who simply want to brush up on core digital skills. You must be 16+. 

How the course is delivered:

  • Run over 4 sessions
  • Face to face
  • Tutor-led in small groups

Introduction to iPad & Tablet Devices

A free 4 week beginners class to help you understand and learn the basic functions of an iPad or Tablet device.

Topics covered include:

  • Getting started with the Internet
  • Getting started with E-books
  • Getting started with Basic Photo editing & E-mailing

Who is the course for?

Complete beginners to those who simply want to brush up core digital skills using a tablet or iPad device. You must be 16+. 

How the course is delivered:

  • Run over 4 sessions
  • Face to face
  • Tutor-led in small groups

Digital Skills Workshop

A series of learning sessions which may run tutor-led or remotely on Microsoft Teams. Sign up for one or as many as you like.

Who is the course for?

For learners who have beginner skills already and/or for those who can use Microsoft Teams and can engage in learning remotely. You must be 16+.

Bring Your Own Device - Tablet/iPad/Laptop

Get help using your device! A free drop-in class for when you need help to use your iPad/tablet or laptop - bring it along and we’ll do our best to guide you.

Who is the course for?

For learners who want help with simple specific tasks on their own deivce. You must be 16+.

How the course is delivered:

  • Drop-in sessions
  • Face to face
  • Tutor-led

Learning Bytes

A series of free, short and individual learning sessions delivered remotely on Microsoft Teams. Sign up for one or as many as you like.

For learners who can use Microsoft Teams and engage in learning remotely. You must be 16+.

Learn My Way

An exciting suite of free, online digital learning courses.

Spanning a wide range of topics, these courses will help you to develop the necessary digital skills to make the most of the online world. Choose what to learn at your own pace and time.

  • Online Safety
  • Finding a job online
  • Managing your money online
  • Improving your health online

Who is the course for?

For learners who have access to a computer and the internet that want to learn digital skills to stay safe and connected. You must be 16+.

How the course is delivered:

  • Self-led online learning
  • Remote support available
  • Drop-in support available

PC Passport* (SCQF Level 4)

The NPA PC Passport at SCQF Level 4 provides learners with up-to-date knowledge and skills in a range of popular IT software, such as Office 365. Learners will improve skills in key areas such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software, preparing them for employment and further study.

Who is the course for?

You must be 16+ and either:

  • Unemployed
  • Underemployed (employed only part-time when one wants to be working full-time)
  • At risk of falling into unemployment
  • Facing barriers to work

You should also live in Glasgow, or one of the surrounding local authorities.

How the course is delivered:

  • Face to face
  • Online learning
  • Remote support available

ICDL (formerly ECDL)

Certificated by the BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, the International Certificate of Digital Literacy (ICDL) is an internationally recognised qualification and perfect for learners who want key computer skills and proficiency in the use of the most common applications.

ICDL has 7 modules and covers the following topics:

• IT User Fundamentals
• Using Email and the Internet
• Security for IT Users
• Spreadsheet software
• Presentation software
• Word Processing software
• Database software

Single units may be available, please ask for further information.

The cost of this online course is £200* which includes access to all learning materials, an assessment and exam per module and access to drop-in support sessions. Remote or in-person exams available.

*This course is approved for Individual Training Account (ITA) funding, for which you may be eligible.

For those seeking an internationally recognised digital qualification.
